Thank You Thursday – Ami from Indonesia – 4/27/17

(Ami from Indonesia Studying in Nebraska)

Aspect Foundation’s inbox is flooded with notes from students expressing their gratitude for the experience they have had on student exchange. On Thursdays, we post one of these notes, sharing the “warm fuzzies” with all of you!

Today’s Thank You Thursday features Ami from Indonesia, who is studying in Nebraska on a scholarship sponsored by the US Department of State’s Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, with the Wells family. Read her heartwarming letter to her host family below!

I’ve lived in Omaha, Nebraska only with my host mother, Elaine. She is not only a mother, but also a friend and a teacher for me. We always support and care about each other. We are like a team! (especially when we cook together.) Both of us like cooking and reading. We spend almost every night reading at least a couple of pages of a book. She said reading a book with me was one of her favorite things.

Living with only one family member is really a new thing for me because I used to live in a big family back in Indonesia. But, we just get along really well. It is such a blessing having her in my life. 🙂 Knowing that I only have 2 months left in America makes both of us sad. It is always hard to say goodbye. But, she’s promised to come to Indonesia and attend my wedding.
Mom, all that I can say is thank you for everything, for every moment of love that you’ve given, for the time we’ve spent, for every memory. There is no way to thank you enough.
I love you, and I always will.
Ami
