Hear it from our students! / Life Abroad

Study Abroad Ambassador: Kelsey

Do you have your passport ready yet?! Our study abroad programs still have space for the summer and fall this year, so be sure to check in with us about how to start your dream program!

But don’t take our word for it… hear what participating is like from our student ambassadors that have returned from studying abroad!

Meet Kelsey, a returned exchange student who participated in our language program in Japan during Summer 2017. Kelsey had been studying Japanese for four years before she decided to go abroad to put her learning into practice. She received a scholarship from her school and was even invited to go to Egypt to visit a friend after her study abroad program in Japan ended! Here is what Kelsey had to say after returning from her program:

Q: How do you feel your study abroad experience has benefitted you so far?

A: Studying in Japan was in itself a wonderful experience but it also jump started my passion for what I want to study in college!

Q: How has your study abroad experience caused you to think differently about your future? Has it helped you with any decisions related to college, your personal life, or career interests?

A: I have declared a minor in Asian Studies due to my experience in Japan.

Q: How have you kept in touch with your host family or friends you made while abroad? Have you been back to visit or would you like to one day?

A: I send photo updates to my host family and I hope to visit them in 2020 when I go back to Japan for the Olympics.

Q: Would you recommend studying abroad to other students? If so, do you have any advice for current high school students who are considering study abroad?

A: I will always recommend studying abroad to anyone and everyone that has a passion for it. My advice to anyone considering is to understand that everyone feels a little nervous! But ultimately the experience and friends you make while studying abroad is so worth it.

Q: Do you have any other insight, stories, or comments to share?

A: Travel while you can! Make friends in different countries to go visit and see new places!

And here are a few photos of Kelsey’s amazing experience visiting Egypt after her program in Japan! Once you set foot outside your comfort zone, you never know where your travels may take you…
