For this week’s Thank You Thursday, Monica from Spain tagged us in a beautiful appreciation post on Instagram that we’d like to share with everyone! Her sweet words remind us all how meaningful cultural exchange can be for these students and the HUGE role that our generous host families play in that impact. Keep reading to hear why Monica’s heart will forever remain partly in the US!
“Leaving my home country for 10 months is probably the hardest thing I’ve done, but something I can clarify now is that the famous quote ‘life begins at the edge of your comfort zone’ is completely true.
My Exchange year wasn’t what I expected, not even close, but it was awesome. It made me grow up so much and start thinking about how life works all by myself. I learned a lot and met a lot of amazing people that I’ll never forget. I did a ton of new things and I lived the real American culture. I made the greatest memories. In short, it was the best experience I’ve ever had. I’m blessed I got to come.
I can’t believe this day is already here. Today, I’m leaving my family and friends to return to my other family and friends. I’m sad that I have to go back to Spain but I will always say, I’ll be back! Now half of my heart is not in Havana but in KC, Missouri.
Thanks, friends. Thanks, family. Thanks, America!”
