How Hosting Created a Match Made in Heaven

Sometimes the perfect match comes when no one’s expecting it. Team Manager Sherri shared how Kim and Levin in Texas decided not to host this year, until she discovered Lucas from Brazil, a student whose dream was a perfect fit for their family. As Sherri tells us, “This is a story of love, a family that was meant to host Lucas from Brazil, and a match made in heaven.”

Host parents, Kim and Levin, have welcomed several exchange students over the years. Their International Coordinator, Sherri, had asked them to host again, but unfortunately, they said they were unable to host this school year because they were busy helping their son getting married.

Weeks later, Sherri was reading student profiles and came across Lucas from Brazil. In his letter, he spoke of his dream of becoming a minister, traveling around his country and even the world, supporting small churches. Sherri instantly knew he was meant to live with Levin and Kim!

Sherri reached out to Levin, acknowledging that they were busy and had initially said no, but explaining that Lucas seemed like a perfect fit. Reading his profile, Levin and Kim agreed, and so they welcomed Lucas into their home for the 2026-27 school year.

This past Sunday, Sherri had the joy of watching Lucas preach at his host family’s church. The congregation already knows and loves him, and everyone was thrilled to hear his sermon. As Sherri summed it up: “When I say this is a match made in heaven, I truly mean it!”
