Cheers to Thank You Thursday! Today we’re sharing a thoughtful thank-you letter written by Haby from Mali, who is spending the 2025–26 school year in Utah with the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Haby expresses her gratitude to her host family, International Coordinator, and the YES Program for the many ways they have supported her throughout the year.

As my exchange year comes to an end, I wanted to take the time to thank the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, my International Coordinator, and my host family for everything and express how grateful I am for this experience.

First, thank you to my host family for welcoming me into your home and making me feel like part of your family. Thank you for sharing your everyday life with me, for your kindness, your patience, your support, and all the memories we created together. A special thank you to my host mom for everything you did to make me feel cared for, included, and comfortable throughout this year.

Thank you so much for supporting me with my personal health goals. Thank you for taking the time to find lunch options for school and for always making sure I had something I liked. Thank you for letting me decorate my bedroom for Christmas. I really enjoyed that. Thank you for the Halloween costume, which was definitely one of the best experiences I had here. Thank you for all the little and big things you did for me. I’ll always appreciate the kindness you showed me.

To my International Coordinator, Adele, thank you for your support, guidance, and for always being there throughout this journey. Thank you for helping make this experience smoother and for caring about my exchange year. Thank you for all the monthly activities. We went to so many amazing places, discovered new things, and had so much fun!

And to the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program, thank you for giving me this opportunity that changed my life in so many ways. This year helped me grow, learn, become more independent, create memories I will never forget, and make connections with such amazing people. I learned a lot about myself and about the United States. I also had the opportunity to teach my host community about my country and culture.

Thank you all for being part of such an important chapter of my life. I’m leaving with so much gratitude and so many memories that I will carry with me forever.
