In our most recent post, we asked a first-time host family why they welcomed an exchange student into their home. Now their student, Diana from Spain, thanks her host family and community for her unforgettable year! Diana from Spain, who spent her 2023-24 school year in Arizona, tells us how she gained a second family and about the incredible year she had in America. Diana adds, “They treat me as their own daughter, and show me their love and care.”

I want to say thank you to everyone who made this experience amazing. When I came here, I had no expectations, but this experience ended up being incredible. I am so grateful to a lot of people, but my host families are the main reason of why I do not want to leave now. My first host family, along with another exchange student from Italy, was really cool. I really enjoyed that time and I am still a good friend of the exchange student. I am so happy I met them because those two and a half months I stayed with them were really fun and I will always remember the dogs, Luna and Rori.

I had to change families because my host mum moved overseas, and I felt pretty sad, but my current host family are such beautiful people. I am really grateful to them. Without them, this year would not be the same. They made my experience so much better. They are like my second family and we are already planning to visit each other!
Our personalities really match and I feel so comfortable and safe with them. They did everything to make me feel at home. I spent time with them, met more people, made friends, and the most importantly, became part of the kindest family I have known here. I also want to thank my friends and the other exchange students. I love them, they are amazing!
