The SF Team Volunteers at 826 Valencia
Last week, the Aspect Foundation SF Team had the pleasure of volunteering with 826 Valencia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the youth of the Bay Area. Focusing on closing the academic achievement gap, 826 Valencia helps children between the ages of 6 and 18 with their creative and expository writing skills. Using a project-based approach, 826 Valencia helps to strengthen students’ abilities to express themselves, allows them ownership over their very own projects, and connects them with caring adults who provide individualized support.
We spent the day getting to know some of their students, reading together, writing poems, and laughing a lot! These kids have wild imaginations and 826 Valencia encourages them to run with it, allowing the students to develop their own characters, stories, and adventures. We had a lot of fun pitching in and made some new friends right away!
